"The food you eat can be the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison." - Ann Wigmore

bit o' history...

The Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP) program was created by The Nutritional Therapy Association (NTA) to aid in assisting healthcare professionals gain more knowledge of the importance of eating a whole foods, properly prepared nutrient dense diet. The NTA bases their foundations off the work of many pioneers in the natural health field, like Weston A. Price and Dr. Frances Pottenger. They educate and create NTP's to include the importance of understanding that food is your first form of defense and it is pertinent to feed your body royally.

kimmi's nutritional therapy story...

I had been researching degree and certification programs to gain more knowledge and credibility for almost two years. A friend and Weston A. Price chapter leader told me to look into the NTA. It was the first program I had explored that truly resinated with me AND I had quite a bit of the recommended reading already in my home library! Needless to say, I joined up immediately in 2014 and it's truly been a life changing experience. I had been healthy, by American standards, for years but it was my NTP certification that really tied it all together and made the most difference than any lifestyle I had lived before. I didn't think I had any signs and symptoms until I saw a list of them from the NTA and boy was I surprised! I've spent time ever since honing in on my bioindividual needs through diet, supplementation and other mind-body-spirit practices like yoga and meditation. It's been an amazing journey learning my body through this healing process and I feel privileged to share this knowledge with others. If you're at all interested in following along to help with your own healing journey, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I promise it will make your world a better place!

Changing one's diet is the first way to start the healing process. If you're ready to do this, we're ready to guide you. I always start with the foundations to gather information and create balance. The foundations or pillars of health include digestion, blood sugar regulation, fatty acid balance, hydration and mineral balance. By addressing the primary pillars of health and instilling a properly prepared, nutrient dense diet, you will be amazed at how many of your issues will work themselves out.

We will start with an initial interview to discuss your food habits, medical and lifestyle history, challenges and signs and symptoms. You'll go home with food recommendations, dietary changes and possibly a supplement of two from our first meeting. After implementing some changes, we'll meet up again in a week or two to perform the functional evaluation. This is where we gather feedback from your body by palpating certain reflex points to gain an even deeper understanding of how to prioritize our work together. If you're a long distance client, we'll work this part out a little different but will still move in the same direction of prioritization or I'll be happy to connect you with an NTP in your area.

I work with clients in three month cycles. We typically meet every other week to stay on track and ensure we're addressing the necessary changes and needs of the client.

"You can trace every sickness, every disease and every ailment to a mineral deficiency." - Dr. Linus Pauling

bit o' history...

Simply put, minerals are needed to accomplish almost every mechanism of the body. If our minerals are depleted, we just don't function properly or optimally. We would typically get minerals from our food, but since soils are being depleted via continuous usage, monoculture crops and nasty chemicals to reduce pests, unwanted vegetation and the use of artificial fertilizers, less minerals are bioavailable today than ever. This is one of the many reasons it's important to know where your food comes from and hopefully it's from a local farmer or your own yard. Too much of the standard American diet (aka too many processed foods), stress and medications lead our bodies to not be able to break down and absorb nutrients from our food. So, as you can see, it's pretty easy for someone to not get the minerals they need. It doesn't have to seem so dire, though, when you have access to hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) and Nutritional Therapy.

what is hair tissue mineral analysis...

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis is a measurement of the minerals located in your bodily tissues. This simple test can provide information about one's metabolic rate, energy levels, sugar/carbohydrate tolerance, stage of stress, immune system and glandular activity.

Why is this more accurate than a blood test? Many reasons, but the main one is HTMA provides a history of around three to four months and a blood test is closer to 24 to 48 hours. Short-term stressors like fear, medications or refined foods effect the blood instantly, where you'd have to continue these stressors for weeks to create mineral changes in the tissues. If someone ingests a heavy metal, like lead, it will can be detectable in the blood for about a month but then by protective design, if the body cannot eliminate this stressor, it will store it in the tissues. Hair tissue mineral analysis can show the accumulation of heavy metals long after ingestion, whereas a blood test can show they aren't present in the body.

A HTMA just doesn't look at individual minerals, it gives us a big picture of how our bodies are functioning by comparing minerals to one another. The mineral ratios can let us know if our bodies are digesting proteins, how our adrenal and thyroid glands are functioning and how our bodies are handling sugar. These numbers can show trends in the body way before a medical diagnosis of a disease.

what to expect...

Just as with Nutritional Therapy, changing one's diet is the first way to start the healing process. However if you're apprehensive about a whole lifestyle approach but still want to make progress, HTMA is for you. On the other hand, if you've truly worked on your lifestyle approach and are consuming a properly prepared nutrient dense diet and still have some issues, HTMA can be a knight in shining armor. There are few "rules" with HTMA that every client must be aware of...hair must be clean, cannot be dyed and you cannot use a medicated shampoo. We will only need approximately 125 to 135 mg of hair, closest to the scalp, to perform the analysis. This is significantly less than a teaspoon so it's possible for us to get your sample in between trips to the hair dresser. We send the sample to Analytical Research Labs and wait about two to three weeks to receive your 25 page booklet with results, dietary recommendations, mineral levels, disease trends and metabolic explanation. We highly recommend following the supplement protocol created by chemists at the laboratory for at least six months. Their minerals are chelated, meaning joined with a protein, for ultimate absorption and they know not all minerals are created the same. Also, all minerals work with other minerals so taking calcium doesn't necessarily raise your calcium levels and it takes other minerals for calcium to get broken down by the body. The chemists at Analytical Research Labs understand these complex relationships and take them all into consideration when creating a personal supplement protocol.

What is RESTART...

RESTART was created by Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Jeni Hall, to help people gain a better understanding of what it's like to eat healthy and listen to the messages from their body. It's designed to be taught in a small group setting to allow the participants have an open conversation of what it's like to pay attention to your why's and how's of eating. With a three week sugar detox built in, it's a fantastic approach to better health! You'll be very surprised at what might come out of this five week course.
